Interesting column by Jason Sanford on Goodreads practices

https://www.patreon.com/posts/51839225

"My new Genre Grapevine details how the weak security at Goodreads allows trolls & criminals to use the site for attacks/extortion.

"And then there's the problem with Goodreads allowing ratings and reviews of books before advanced reader copies (ARCs) are even available. These ratings are frequently one-stars and targeted at authors in marginalized communities.

"Goodreads is owned by Amazon so they have the financial and tech resources to fix all these issues. Goodreads has also been alerted to these issues for years. They keep saying they're working on it.

"At this point it should be obvious that Goodreads simply doesn't care."

Kevin Carson Reviewing them before advance review copies are available seems like a bit of a red flag, though. And online commercial review sites like Yelp and Google Reviews are pretty quick to take down reviews that aren't based on legitimate customer experiences, so apparently some weeding out of swarm attacks is feasible.
