Why Dancing Before the Crash

In 1978, I moved to New York City. This was a joyous time to be gay. This was pre-AIDS. I found myself partying at gay bars and clubs, dating some men while enjoying anonymous sex with others. The dance music was fabulous as were the clubs like The Saint, Paradise Garage and Studio 54.

Sometime around 1981, we began to hear about a gay cancer. Many of my friends were affected.

During these years, I kept a journal. Dancing Before the Crash is my journal re-written. I have changed the names and many locations, but the stories are true.

If you are a member of the LGBTQ+ community and either lived during this time or are interested in reading about it, this a true story from a survivor.

Paul Douglas Lovell As a gay memoirist I'd like to wish you every success. I have just completed my 80s gay memoir, set in secondary school. The fear of Aids and of coming out, all too real. Good Luck.

C.C. Everill Thank you Paul for your kind words. I was 25 in 1980 and I am extremely interested in reading stories about that era. Your book sounds great and I will check it out. Best Regards.

Sorry for the delay in reply... navigating Goodreads not so intuitive. I hope sales for your book are going well.

I understand about navigating Good Reads.
Thank you, the book is doing okay considering it's my first. I don't know much about promotion but am learning!

I smile.... I know your nightmare. Marketing, the devil's work. I'm not really sure how I'm doing. Not as well as I'd like that I do know. Still we can all use a little more luck, so here's some from me. GL
