Sigh. I just had to do something painful. Anybody who follows me on twitter will understand just how painful. I'm a pinterest addict. And I just...deleted...MOST of my boards.
I've always tried to be careful with my pinterest boards.
One of my favorite sites for inspiration is deviantart, but I steer clear of there in in general and usually don't repin anything without checking to make sure the creator is okay with it, because many of the artists sell their work. Since they sell their work, they likely aren't fond of having it distributed for free. I try to be conscious of this.
Other things, like recipes from recipes sites, images from IMDB, etc, I believed that as long as the source was credited, I was okay.

As usual, the devil is in the details. Today, the 'details' are Pinterest operator Cold Brew Labs' terms of service. And by 'devil' I mean the following two excerpts:
By making available any Member Content through the Site, Application or Services, you hereby grant to Cold Brew Labs a worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, transferable, royalty-free license, with the right to sublicense, to use, copy, adapt, modify, distribute, license, sell, transfer, publicly display, publicly perform, transmit, stream, broadcast, access, view, and otherwise exploit such Member Content only on, through or by means of the Site, Application or Services
I don't like this. Legally, I'm not entirely sure what all of this boils down to, but I do know I can't be telling them I've got the right to tell them they can resell something I post there. I don't own it unless I've taken the picture. I credit the source. I didn't realize they planned on selling shit.
I've removed the majority of my boards for now. The ones that remain are things like quotes, book covers, recipes that I've repinned and I may shut that one down and just repin from actual cook/recipe sources on pinterest. I figure if they are posting the recipes, they don't mind if it's repinned.
I might look for more artists to follow, I don't know. But I just have one thing to say to pinterst.

It doesn't look like that's what they're saying at all, if it makes you feel any better. It looks as if they're saying if you upload content (which you can do), you allow them to send it out *only on, through or by means of the Site, Application or Services*. That is, you are allowing them to distribute it (that's what Pinterest does, after all), but ONLY by means of Pinterest. Not by creating a book of it and selling it, for example. (That was, of course, the problem with Facebook's TOS, which said they could do anything they wanted with your content.)
Scared the bejeebers out of me for a minute there. But after a second look I think Laura might be right. "and otherwise exploit such Member Content only on, through or by means of the Site, Application or Services"
Then I was worried about the term sell. But I believe this is in relation to sell access to or advertising on Pinterest. But before uploading content I will definitely research this further.
