A young woman is left with her dead father’s legacy—a ranch with a burnt-out house and a neighbor she wants not to like.

Before we talk with today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the free Kindle copy of the speculative and historical novel, Rendezvous with God, by Bill Myers, is:

And now let's revisit with novelist Susan Page Davis, author of the historical romance, The Rancher’s Legacy (Scrivenings Press, February 2021).

Susan Page Davis is the author of more than 90 novels and novellas, primarily in the historical romance, romantic suspense, and mystery genres. She’s a winner of the Carol Award, the Will Rogers Medallion, and the Faith, Hope, and Love Chapter’s Reader’s Choice Award.
A Maine native, Susan now lives in western Kentucky with her husband. They have six grown children and eleven grandchildren.

Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.

My father was a seventh-generation resident in our little town in Central Maine, and I feel a bit guilty for moving away. But I don’t miss the long winters!

I can imagine how difficult it would be to leave that legacy behind. I'm with you on the winter issue, though!
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of The Rancher's Legacy.

Matt Anderson’s task is to collect his neighbor’s daughter Rachel Maxwell from the stagecoach depot in Fort Lyon, Colorado, and deliver her safely home. But on the way, he learns two things that throw their world into chaos: Rachel refuses to even consider their fathers’ plan for them to marry, and outlaws have placed the Maxwell ranch under attack.

As Matt and Rachel hear gunfire and watch vicious flames devour her home, an elderly widow in Portland, Maine, hires an investigator to locate her three long-lost grandchildren. Rachel is devastated, and Matt’s dreams are crushed, but Edith Rose refuses to give up hope.

What is it about Matt that will make your readers care about him?

Matt is a caring, hardworking son. He’s also patriotic and loyal to family. He puts aside his own wants and ambitions to help others.

Imagine you’ve been contracted to write a novel about a real person. About whom would you want to write?

William the Conqueror.

Wow, that would be no small feat!
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?

My husband and I have been enjoying the Lady Hardcastle mystery series, by T. E. Kinsey. They’re cozy mysteries set in England in the early 1900s, and they’re light and funny but have good mysteries in them. The first book is A Quiet Life in the Country.

Oh, those stories look like wonderful fun! An eccentric widow and her martial-arts-expert maid. I put a link to the seven-book set in your answer, in case any readers are interested.
What are you working on now?

I’m working on book 2 of this series, The Corporal’s Codebook. It’s about Matt’s younger brother, Elijah.
