Dear friends,
Publication day! Today THE TECHNOLOGISTS, my fourth novel is officially on sale. Please consider showing the booksellers your enthusiasm for the book by ringing one up at your local store or your favorite online site as soon as you can!
THE TECHNOLOGISTS is a thriller about the very first class at M.I.T. at a time when the idea of teaching science and technology was considered downright dangerous. When a series of scientific disasters spreads through Boston, a small group of students from the class of 1868 must come together to uncover the source of the menace. Harvard, meanwhile, looks to use the public fear to crush its rival. Included among the characters is Ellen Swallow, the very first female student at M.I.T. who is hidden away from the public like a "dangerous animal" (her real words!). Lots more including my first ever book "trailer" at
www.MATTHEWPEARL.com!
The book will be launched with a reading tonight (2/21) at the MIT Museum at 6:00pm. I hope all you Boston-area folks will come to this kick-off--if you haven't been to the museum, it's a blast. Wednesday I will be in Concord, New Hampshire at Gibson's Bookstore (7:00pm) and Thursday back in Cambridge at Porter Square Books (7:00pm), then Sandwich Public Library in Cape Cod on Saturday (2:00pm). See the
events post for more. I can't wait to see some of you along the way. If you haven't signed up for my email newsletter, that's another way I can let you know when I have an event in your area (

And don't forget my Great Leap Year Giveaway!
Finally, I'm thrilled to report that Library Journal calls THE TECHNOLOGISTS "faultless," Kirkus Reviews says it's "delightful" and the Sunday Times of London writes "Pearl takes an unusual subject for a thriller and seamlessly weaves historical research and his own inventions into a satisfying story." I'm really excited to share the book with you. Please forward this email to anyone you think might be interested and any book club members looking for a new pick.
Yours sincerely,
Matthew
