Only 1.7% of Central Govt Petrol Taxes Shared with States – Where Has Cooperative Federalism Gone?

By earning a greater proportion of taxes through cess and surcharges, the central government has ensured that it needs to share a lower amount of taxes with the state governments. This is not good news for states in an economically difficult environment.
