Theme Music for Diversion

In my upcoming novel Diversion, the hero, Lucky, was raised on a North Carolina tobacco farm and likes classic rock music. However, a wealthy former lover introduced him to some of the finer things in life, and as a result, he has  bittersweet memories of Pachelbel's Canon in D Major, the "music that played on his elevator ride to Hell."

I thought I'd share Lucky's odd obsession. Enjoy!

Feliz your blog ate my comment so I'll post it here ;-)
I love the Pachelbel Canon. It's also called "the mother of all popsongs"; the number of songs based on or inspired by Pachelbel's canon are legion. As far as I know, even the National Anthem of the USSR derived from this piece of music.

Eden Winters Wow! I didn't know that. Not being a classical musical fan at the time that I first heard it, much like Lucky, I fell immediately in love. From there I branched out, and now own as many classical CDs as I do contemporary.

And I have no clue what's wrong with my blog. You're not the first to say they couldn't post there. I'll see if I can get it fixed.

Feliz Hi Eden,

here's a small list of popular songs based on Pachelbel (this list makes no claims of being complete, not in the slightest)

Streets of London (Ralph McTell)
When a man loves a woman (Percy Sledge)
Go West (Village People)
Piano Man (Billy Joel)
In my Live (Beatles)
Can't stop loving you (Phil Collins)
Everytime (Britney Spears)
Pictures of Lilly (The Who)
Don't Sleep in the Subway (Petula Clark)
Whatever and Don't look back in Anger (both Oasis)
C U when U get there (Coolio)

and so on....This particular cord sequence is simply magic.

Eden Winters It's very haunting. I've heard it in movies too, and it's a popular song to play at weddings.
