Too close to a handsome man - snippet from Bridget Bramble and the Wandering Elf for #WeWriWa

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors and Snippet Sunday . Reading is a safe pastime during the pandemic. Sample the work of a new author. Read snippets of stories in different genres.

I’m continuing to offer excerpts from my new fantasy, Bridget Bramble and the Wandering Elf. In a few weeks, I hope to begin on snippets from my WIP, Baswin, Book 5 in my Science Fiction series, Taxyon Space.

In last week’s snippet, Windswift has returned to Bridget. The elf says he has found a route and will help her over the landslide.

You can read the snippet at https://auroraspringer.blogspot.com/2021/03/a-thin-rope-snippet-from-bridget.html

The story continues:

For the second time, the elf leaped onto the boulder. Kneeling on the edge, he reached down to her. “Take my hand. I’ll lift you up here.”

Bridget grasped his warm fingers, placed her foot on the side of the rock, and jumped at the same time as he tugged on her hand.

She flew up.

In a supple motion, he straightened his legs and stood erect, drawing her level with him.

Breathless with excitement, she landed on her feet with her breasts almost touching his chest. Her nerves rang alarms. She was standing far too close to a handsome man, a strange elf, yet she dared not step backward and risk falling off the boulder. She blushed and lowered her eyes.

Ten lines and I’m sure you’d like a little more:

Instead of pulling her into an embrace as some men might have done, he dropped her hand and rotated to stand beside her. Gesturing ahead, he said, “Follow my steps. This way is easier.” Without waiting for her reply, he hopped onto the adjacent boulder.

Fantasy romance. A young witch escapes the destruction of her home and embarks on a perilous quest for the fabled land where elves and humans live in peace.

In a land threatened by cruel invaders from the east, Bridget Bramble lives in a small village where she barters herbs and carved buttons. When marauders target her village and murder her family, she flees into the woods. Armed with her Granny’s advice and a bag of magic buttons, she sets out on the perilous journey to Oakenwald, the fabled land where elves and men live in harmony. As she travels farther from home, she encounters malicious creatures from the worst kind of folktale.

Lost in the foothills of the mountains, Bridget meets the elf, Windswift the Wanderer. He offers to guide her across the mountain range. But what is the elf doing in human lands? Can an ordinary, or almost ordinary, human girl trust a cold hearted elf to lead her to safety?

Epic fantasy adventure and romance with darker overtones. This story weaves elements of folklore and a quest for a safe haven in a land where magic is real.
