The Kitchen Front: Simply Irresistable

The Kitchen Front by Jennifer Ryan My tantalizing new novel, The Kitchen Front, came out on February 23rd, 2021. It is a fun, fascinating tale of a cooking contest, using only rationed food in Second World War Britain.

Four different women cooks battle through three tests: starter, main course, and dessert, with the winner set to become the first female co-host of the BBC radio show, The Kitchen Front. For young widow Audrey, it’s an escape from a life in debt, battling to keep a roof over her children’s heads. For kitchen maid Nell, it is her one chance to find freedom from servitude. Lady Gwendoline, a wealthy manufacturer’s wife, is gripped by hopes of escaping her abusive husband. A trained head chef, Zelda needs to prove herself in a profession dominated by men, while also dealing with an unexpected pregnancy.

Drama, loss, and plenty of friendship, heartbreak, and love make up this delectable book, notwithstanding the fascinating food tips and real Second World War recipes.

I love the fabulous new cover, for which I have to thank the wonderful design team at Ballantine Books. I think this one is going to be flying off the shelves, a real treat for a cozy evening by the fire or to enjoy with book clubs.

Jennifer Ryan Thank you so much, Anne! It's so wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the other books. I think you'll love The Kitchen Front. It's a great combination of good characters, intriguing cooking, and a big heart.

Kate Baxter Jennifer, I thoroughly enjoyed, "The Kitchen Front" and have been spreading word of its joy and wonders. Your depth of research was Herculean and most impressive. But its your writing which truly captures the imagination and soul. Thank you so much for bringing this bit of WWII history of the Homefront to our hearts. I eagerly await your next writing project's results.

Jennifer Ryan Thank you so much, Kate! It's lovely to hear how much you enjoyed it. Which was your favorite character? I can't quite decide myself. I have just finished my next book, although it has to go through an editing process and then printing, so it won't be out until about this time next year, I'm afraid. I'll keep you posted though.

I would have to say that Audrey captured my heart as she works tirelessly to hold everything together for the sake of others. She's a dear heart. But I love the other characters too (perhaps just not quite as much).

Jennifer Ryan Oh, I loved Audrey so much, too. Thank you so much for your messages.

Watessa Wolfe Although I was #1 on the reserve list at my library - because I requested the purchase the moment I heard it was coming out - I canceled the reserve and purchased it. I am only about a quarter of the way through it and am not allowing myself to read it in one sitting because I want to savor it!

Jennifer Ryan What a wonderful thing to hear! I love it when that happens, and I feel so touched that you've found that place with The Kitchen Front. Thank you so much for getting in touch, and do let me what you think once you finish it.

Joan Wilkes I loved The Kitchen Front, and have made it my selection for our neighborhood book club in December! We invite you to join us virtually for a few minutes, if you have a chance. I especially appreciated the book's theme of supportive friendship. The women in our group have been meeting for more than 15 years, through all kinds of challenges. During pandemic times we continued to meet virtually, allowing even former members who had moved out of state to re-join us -- and now we have a Zoom or FaceTime option for all our meetings. Thank you for your wonderful book -- a testament to the power of women working together for good in the world! 😊📚
