Pico Iyer

Pico Iyer is in a class all his own. If you haven't read Video Nights in Katmandu, I hope you will. I've not met anyone as generous or kind; and what an amazing life/career he has had. (if you haven't read The Lady and the Monk, well, I hope you'll read that, too).

He came to KCRW on his book tour a few weeks ago (his latest is called The Man Within My Head, about his obsession with Graham Greene, among other things) and the only problem was how to distill this beautiful complex book into 3 and a half minutes, which is what we have allotted on the air.

We talked for 25 minutes, which made life for the editor a nightmare. Thankfully, he posted the whole thing online.

In particular, I loved hearing Pico talk about growing up in California, and in England, at a time when running around the world wasn't so common….
