Trivia on and links to my new book A NOVEL
A little something about A NOVEL
*I wrote this book in 1999, just before I started my Masters in French language&Literature and two years before I travelled to France.
*I was nineteen and had one of my glimpses into my future, sprinkled with a bit of what-ifs. Knowing reality might not be as good, it led me to a perfect set-up for fiction.
*This was two years before I first started combatting depression.
*A Novel, like all my books, looks into life itself: what we plan for in life as opposed to what actually happens, and how much control we think we have as opposed to how much control we really have.
*It also confirms the idea that a person alone tends to accomplish much more in life than one bogged down with the luggage of other people.
*This was the last book I wrote until I started writing again in 2013.
*Like the Female Lead, Nain, I also chose to leave the country at least twice to find myself...I had begun to notice the signs of depression coming on, knowing that if I did not do what I wanted to the way I wanted to, I would succumb to depression. (Needless to say I did not do what I wanted to and not the way I wanted to do it: family interference reigned, as a result of which 20 years of life passed putting others' problems and wishes first, and putting my life on a hold.) Ironically I am at the very stage Nain was in my book except it is perhaps too late to make the choices she did. Especially thanks to COVID. So the least I could do was publish this book so that somewhere some lady may gather up courage to revamp her life amidst COVID.
*Digitising this book made me have a flicker of hope: if she could manage it at aged 40 so can I.
*The lack of availability of amazon ad campaigns and the non-existence of my country in their distribution list has blocked my marketing completely so that I cannot reach out to my targetted audience. This is the 3rd book in a row that has suffered the consequence of said issues with amazon and other distributors publishing sites, including Barnes&Noble.
*A Novel being one of my older works depicts the sheer optimism I had, when youth gives you the illusion that nothing can go wrong, and if it does we can fix it, we can control it. This is probably shown in most of my works of that period where the genre is more literary fiction and cozy adventure/mystery than hard core thrillers like my later works.
*Like Nain I stayed in France for a little time...returning back home after 11months, ditching my residence and my degree for family reasons.
Like Nain I did live in the UK...I spend a part of my childhood in the UK and returned there as an adult to gain my second Masters in Script-writing & Production and lived for three years before once again I had to leave for family reasons.
Like Nain I did major in Journalism. But I decided not to pursue it as a career.
In A Novel I touch the subjects of imperialism, invasion, war, racism and gender discrimination...all of which, I am sad to say, not only prevail today but if anything, have augmented.
I describe it as women's fiction, because, contrary to popular opinion, women's fiction does mean exclusively romance novel like Mills & Boon...to me any story revolving around a female protagonist, where her life and her world is explored through her point of view is essentially women's fiction.
A Novel is romance, but not your typical contemporary or historical romance.
If you like a clean wholesome romance with a whole lot of adventure and a bit of mystery then A Novel is just the book for you. (It is also just the book for you if you are wondering about making a change in your life...it has made me rethink things about my life as well).
