Now available: The Year in Between

So, once--a long, long time ago--I said I would publish a Sense and Sensibility variation in March 2020. It is January 2021. What can I say? Time and I are not friends.

But we have made a truce, and here is the result:

The Year in Between A Sense and Sensibility Variation by Christina Morland

The Year in Between: A Sense and Sensibility Variation tells the story of the year in between Elinor's marriage to Edward and Marianne's marriage to Brandon. After Willoughby's betrayal, how did Marianne come to see Brandon--and herself--in a new light? How did Elinor and Edward, who had for so long believed they could not marry, fare during that first year of matrimony?

Whether you know Sense and Sensibility well, or this is your first introduction to Elinor, Marianne, Edward, and Brandon, I hope you'll consider visiting my version of Delaford, where love and friendship--and all the challenges that come with them--abound.

Many thanks!

Thanks so much, Carole! I knew, while writing the book, that I'd have great admiration for Elinor, Edward, and Brandon--all of whom try to moderate their responses to the drama of the world. What I didn't expect was how much I came to love Marianne, despite (or perhaps because of) her tumultuous ways. I suppose what I discovered was that I have a great deal more in common with Marianne than I expected. (Given that some of Marianne's tendencies can be attributed to her age--18/19 in this novel--I suppose I should not admit that I still act like her at age 43! :D)

Do hope you and yours are well!

Svetlana Krajinski Congratulations Christina - and thank you! I have just purchased my copy and am saving it for when my partner returns to his office in mid February. After being on top of each other for almost a year due to various levels of Covid-19 restrictions here in Melbourne (Australia) I’m looking forward to sprawling on the sofa with a delicious read and no distractions! Can’t wait!!! In the meantime I hope all is well your end and that the situation with regards to Covid-19 in the UK improves soon.

Greetings, Svetlana! Thank you so much for the congratulations -- and especially for commenting. I'm so glad to hear that the situation in Melbourne may soon lead to a lifting of some restrictions. Let us hope this is a continuing trend. The impact of the pandemic on so many people's lives -- their health, their jobs, their ability to see the ones they love -- has been terrible indeed. Here's hoping 2021 proves a better year for all!

I'm actually in the U.S., not the UK (though I, too, hope the situation there improves; I know the lockdown must be hard on so many). Here -- well, the response and the experience depends so much on where in the U.S. one lives, and also on one's social situation. (This has long been a truth of American life -- that geography, class, race, and so many other factors impact our opportunities, though we don't, as a nation, like to admit that.) Luckily, I'm in a community where most people are taking the situation seriously. I think often of my sister, who lives in a different part of the country and is an emergency room nurse. She has been working so hard for so long. Again, hoping things improve for everyone, but most especially for her.

Remind me if I'm wrong, but didn't you once recommend The Chronicles of Prydain (children's fantasy series) to me? I don't know if I ever mentioned that my daughter and I ended up really enjoying that series!

Do hope you and your continue to be well. Thank you again for stopping by!
