BREAKING POINT wins Best Romantic Suspense in AAR Poll

I am delighted and astonished to be able to announce that Breaking Point (I-Team Book 5) won Best Romantic Suspense in All About Romance's Annual Reader Poll. This is the second year in a row that one of my books has claimed this honor, as Naked Edge won in the same category last year.

As tempting as it is to crown myself reigning queen of romantic suspense, I gave my tiara to an adorable little 3-year-old princess named Taylor. Besides, there are so many fantastic authors writing romantic suspense that any such attempted coronation would be nothing but hubris.

This is the second (or third?) significant honor Breaking Point has picked up, as the editors of Amazon.com named it one of the Top 10 Romance Novels of 2011.

Thank you to all of you who read the book, who shared your feelings about it through reviews and word of mouth, and who voted in AAR's poll. You helped make this book the success is has been. It means the world to me.

Other winners I was happy to see this year included Julie James, who won Best Contemporary Romance for the second year in a row, this time with A Lot Like Love, a book I very much enjoyed. A Lot Like Love also tied with Susan Elizabeth Phillip's Call Me Irresistible for Funniest Romance. Both had to be a tough categories to win.

I was also thrilled to see Jessica Scott pick up Best Debut Author for Because of You. I read her book pre-release and gave it a blurb because I was so impressed with the military authenticity she, as an army captain, was able to bring to the story.

Head on over to AAR to see a list of all the winners, to read author commentary on the poll, and to participate in a discussion of the poll on AAR's message boards.

In the meantime, I'd love to celebrate this with you. Trouble is, I am sick as a dog with the worst case of bronchitis I think I've ever had. After four days of fever, one trip to the ER for an asthmatic attack, and several sleepless nights, I have very little energy for anything.

So to help me celebrate, post your favorite moment or quote from Breaking Point .  I'll draw one name at random from those who post, and that person will win a signed copy of the book.

Thanks again for your support!

Pamela Thanks so much, Karen! I appreciate your vote so very much. And I love what you've done to your name with the little hearts. Very cute. I can't do those cute symbols with Mac — at least I don't think I can.

As for Connor's story — I'll cross my fingers for that. I hope you all believe it was worth the wait when you turn that last page. :-)

Keri Yea!!! I voted for it as well! Congratulations! Hope you get to feeling better soon.

KK Fabulous news, but not surprising at all. Congratulations!

message 6: by Pamela (new)

Pamela Aw, thanks, KK! That's sweet of you to say. How are you feeling? A little birdie told me you were sick, too. Or was that a hallucination?

message 7: by KK (new)

KK Ha! Your little birdie has good info...unfortunately. Denial hasn't worked, medication hasn't worked. Still considering step three.

Pamela Which is...?

I can't remember the last time I was this sick. I'm afraid if I cough one more time, my head will pop off. I can't get out of bed. :-p

Of course, being stuck in bed is more interesting than it used to be, thanks to the Interwebs.

Karla YAY...Congratulations! Well-deserved, as always! I wish you felt better so you could enjoy this moment more. I hope that you have someone that can give you some TLC!

My favorite scene, was the the rescue with all the guys...riveting, and then when everyone looked at Joaquin's photos! HA, that was one big scene, maybe I should just say I loved the whole book!!

Pamela Thanks, Karla!

My younger son, Benjy, who is 22 and just graduated from college, has been taking care of me. Thank goodness he's home!

That's definitely a very popular scene. Readers almost always mention it when they talk about the book. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

Jennifer Lane Well deserved, Pamela! Hope your lungs clear soon.

Pamela Thanks, Jennifer!

I actually slept most of last night, so that's a vast improvement. The doc put me on both steroids and antibiotics, and they seem to be working! Thank goodness!

SandiegoSuzanne Well, although I'm sure it didn't feel like it from your perspective, Pamela, this was a shoe-in if ever there was one.

Since I usually only read historicals this was my first I-Team. Within a month, I had burned through all the others. I enjoyed all of them but "Breaking Point" remains my favorite.

I recently reread the MacKinnon books and now I am eagerly awaiting July 3 when Defiant will be "auto-delivered wirelessly to (my) Kindle".

Pamela Hi, Suzanne — No, it certainly never felt like a shoe-in. I read the notes from the folks at AAR who run the poll, and they said it won "outright," i.e., not even close. That just amazes me. There are so many fantastic authors writing romantic suspense.

I wrote half this book a month after having two vertebrae removed from my neck and replaced with implants. Prior to the surgery, I was so worried that I just wouldn't get the book done. And then afterward, when I was still home recovering, I had two months to finish it. For me, it felt like a miracle that I was able to get it done.

To know that so many readers enjoyed it makes me so grateful and happy.

Ashley Congratulations Pamela!!!!! Your books are always amazing to read. The twists you give them great and original. When I first read the book and read the part where Julian gets hurt I wanted to cry. Of course, you always find a way to make everything right in the end. The characters from the other books were such an important asset to this one that it made it all that much better to read. I absolutely loved it.
Keep writing such great books. And no worries I don't believe there will ever be a day when your books don't amaze your readers. Your the best, and thank you for making my day so enjoyable by simply being able to read your books. Cant wait to read more of them.

SandiegoSuzanne Pamela - I don't usually give medical advice, but your pneumania sounds quite a bit like the whooping cough my husband had two years ago - especially the cough until you are on the verge of passing out. My hubby is OK now. But he coughed off and on for about six months after he was sick. And before that the last time he even had a cold was about ten years ago.

The problem with whooping cough is that a person is usually past the place where it can be tested for in a lab and the disease has moved on into other lovely things like pneumonia before anyone asks the question "Could this be whooping cough?"

There is currently a resurgence of whooping cough in the US in people over 45. We all had the vaccination as kids and nobody has thought about it since. But now many doctors especially here along the border are recommending a booster shot.

Sorry to be one of those "helpful" medical advice people but at least I may be informing folks to get a booster. Whooping Cough is a miserable way to spend the six months to a year to totally recover and it is totally preventable with the booster.

Suzanne

PS: Whooping cough does have a very particular sound to the cough but most doctors today have never heard it so it goes unrecognized. I diagnosed my husbands problem (later confirmed by his pulmonary specialist) by listening to the recordings posted by this doctor in the U.K.
