On How can you jump out of your comfort zone.

Hi 🙋 i am Priyanka Baranwal. Welcome to my blog! By the way, i am an author, and a blogger, poet, guitarist and podcaster. Know more About Me. Let's talk about the post idea now, shall we? 😊

So the big question is, Why should you jump out of your comfort zone?

Because precisely out of it lies Growth.

Researchers say that by the end of February, 60% of us give up on the New Year resolutions. By the time March is signing off, the number turns 80%. Which, in other words, means that only 20% of us keep up with the resolutions/promises we make to ourselves.

Let's focus on the least number here to reap the maximum motivation - 20%
One of the reasons that people give up is because those resolutions push them to come out of their comfort zone. It asks them to leave the normal and try something new. This - turning the new into a normal - becomes a huge challenge and before people give their best, they give up instead.
Here are 3 simple ways you can try to leap out of the comfort zone and promise yourself growth this year. If it makes you feel better, doing it will help you end this year On. Your. Own. Terms.

1. Find ways to stick to the new
The reason i have picked up this topic is related to my latest experience in music. i am a guitarist and i love to play songs on chords. Chords are my thing. But for some reasons, by the time 2020 was ending, i began losing motivation for playing chords. It felt bad! i tried keeping up but somehow, it wasn't happening.
What should i do now then? i asked myself quite often. Should i give up? Put my guitar away until i find the motivation again?
If i know one thing then it is, that waiting for the right moment or motivation to arrive is like waiting for a train at the airport. It will never happen.
So, i jumped the lane and chose something i was not comfortable before - Tabs/Leads. i began playing songs on leads. Here is the first video posted on Nov 10th 2020:

Slowly, i began growing fascination for tabs. Where my fingers were not able to move on particular strings earlier, with regular practice, they began falling in place. Choosing something else made me stick with my guitar. It still makes me feel AWESOME!
Find ways to keep abreast with the promises of this year. You will receive the rewards for the efforts.

2. Keep up with the regular practice So, why exactly i am comfortable playing chords? Because i have played them so much and for so many times that they are my thing now. In relevant terms, they are my comfort zone.
Playing tabs gets your fingers moving - one at a time. Unlike chords. In chords, you play with a set of fingers each time. Doing the opposite was tricky! It still is but i like to keep my promises. i keep my regular practice on so that the new becomes normal.
Check out this one:

Comfort zone feels cozy because you don't have to put efforts anymore. But if you ditch it and push yourself, you can promise yourself growth and learning.

3. Schedule the new until it becomes normal
If you are truly serious about the resolution, schedule a slot for the new learning until it becomes normal. Decide a fix number of hour each day to do it.
This video is the real example for that:

i now play verses too which was a challenge given that tabs aren't my thing and it's outside my comfort zone. Still, i schedule it everyday and give it my best.
Have faith in yourself. Whatever happens, keep up with the promises you have made to yourself. i keep finding ways to stick to tabs, am committed to the regular practice and schedule a slot every day. In short, i make sure i stay with my guitar and it stays with me.
Every time you lose motivation, remind yourself of WHY did you start it at the first place. This should get you going from the normal to the new until the latter becomes the new normal.
