Creativity
I think it's important to be creative.
I like science fiction because it examines new frontiers.
So when I write science fiction, I want to capture the same sense of wonder I felt when watching Stargate. Spoiler alert!
Spoiler alert! Jaffa kree!
Wait, if you haven't watched Stargate yet, go and watch Stargate SG-1!
I remember seeing how the Asgardians were seen as Asgardian gods, and it was interesting how Stargate tied some concepts from mythology into their worldbuilding of their aliens.
As I'm writing, I'm always looking for ideas I can get from mythology or the world around me that I can use in my stories. Makes them more fun to read.
That's also what makes Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series so fun to read. He ties magic in with Greek gods and more.
I also like to let my imagination wander as I'm writing. During the day I sometimes daydream, thinking of new ideas or mixing old ideas up. I want my readers to be surprised when they read about the aliens I'm writing, or the strange vegetables found on alien planets in Aliens Among the Stars, my first science fiction series spanning an entire galaxy.
Anyways, I hope that I can continue to write creative ideas, not just from mythology, but from my own imagination. It's a risk, but as a reader, I like new ideas, not the same old ideas hashed out over and over.
So I hope people will read my books and experience wonder.
