The first chapter of the next silo story

I'm dying to throw the rough draft of the first chapter up here. Would that be bad form? And it's still looking like late March before it's ready.

Lyndon Use it as a before and after post on the writing process. Readers could see the beginning process and then once it's done, compare it against the finished product.

Hugh Howey Lyndon wrote: "Use it as a before and after post on the writing process. Readers could see the beginning process and then once it's done, compare it against the finished product."

That's not a bad idea!

N.E. White I wouldn't. But if you just can't help yourself, go for it!

Limba Woods The process of writing is different for every author. Budding authors would certainly benefit from a before and after comparison...yet for general readers it may be bad form. Certainly a conundrum. Ask yourself who do you want to help or please?

Lyndon Why would general readers care? And why would it be bad form? Who's law are we breaking? Fans who are really fans know what's going on, drive by lurkers probably couldn't care less. Don't try to please anyone but yourself, I say.

N.E. White Well, it only becomes an issue when someone happens to come by who ISN'T a fan, sees a mistake, calls Howey a hack (which, WE all know if is not, but they don't), and tells other people.

But, as Lyndon said, gotta please yourself. I would just think a bit before leaping...

Coleen Cloete I certaintly do not think that there is a right or a wrong way of going about this. Only what works best for you?

As a reader I would love the idea of getting a intimate view of the through progress and "work in progress" version of it.

From an author perspective you might want to over think it etc, but I do think you are more liberal and progressive in the way in which you interact with your fans / readers and therefore is a pioneer in experiment with that component of being an author. Besides most readers would not mind anyway.

Hugh Howey Well, if anyone's interested, I posted the prologue and first chapter on my website.

This is what my rough drafts look like!
