Hanukkah is about avoiding assimilation into majority society, which is (part of) why it’s so frustrating to see Jewish characters being depicted celebrating Christmas. the holiday is AGAINST assimilation! jews were being forced to assimilate so it’s also a struggle for freedom, if you look at it that way
theres also the miracle of the oil and having trust in Gd to provide…the oil was only supposed to last for one night but lasted for eight etc. we were able to rededicate the temple because of that
