One Month Down, Eleven To Go!

Here we are at the beginning of February, how have you been doing with all your goals and plans for 2012? Usually at this point people are starting to back down on their new year's resolutions. As I go to the gym to workout, everyday I see fewer and fewer people. Are you in the same boat? Have you been slowly backing down? I hope not and I want to encourage you to stay strong and not quit.

Quitting is always the easiest thing to do when it comes to following through with our dreams, we're use to it, right? I don't know about you but for me this year is different. I"m tired of the same old same, this year is my year to finally do all those things that I said "I'm going to do" (http://talesofwork.com/blog/2012/01/im-going-to/).

If you've been struggling a little, if you have slowly been backing down, then stop and let's finish this year out strong together! If you need a little more encouragement, then these tips will help you:

Take a deep breath and refocus: If you have written down your goals for this year somewhere, go and get that list. Read through it and see where you're at. If you haven't really made any progress, then take a deep breath and relax a little, it's not the end of the world. Yes, we want to accomplish a lot this year but the plus side is you caught this early and have eleven months to catch up.
Refocus on why you want to accomplish your goals: When you focus on the how and what you can easily get discourage and overwhelmed. When you focus on why, it helps you see the bigger picture of what you're doing. It helps you see that even though the how and what are hard, the end result will be worth it.
Take some gradual steps forward: You don't have to accomplish every goal you have in one month, if you're stuck in a rut, take the first few steps. Sometimes the first few little steps forward help you into action. If you want to lose weight this year, go spend twenty minutes at the gym, those will be the happiest twenty minutes of your week.
Reach out for support: Sometimes in order to make a little progress you need a kick in the pants from those people who are closest to you. Don't be shy, don't be embarrassed, they're your friends for a reason. Reach out to your bud's and tell them where you're at and where you want to be. If you're having a hard time getting to the gym ask that friend to go with you, I'm sure they won't say no!

One month in, I hope that you have made some progress towards your goals and dreams for this year. At some point we have to stop "existing" in life and start "living" out our dreams. If you're struggling take the first steps this week and keep pushing forward. If you want some encouragement or want to share a victory, then here's a good place: http://talesofwork.com/blog/share-your-story/
