Getting to know Maine a day at a time.
Well…we've been in our house here in Oakland for little over a month. The boxes are slowly being emptied; things placed where they should be, and gratefully, I'm finding items that have been lost to me for six months.
We've made some great new friends since our arrival here in July, all of which is a blessing to us. It makes living in a new place much easier to adjust to. We also found a place to worship. That item had been missing in our lives since we left New Jersey. Bev is settling in and will be working for our builder Harold James Inc.She found, to her excitement, a local gym in Waterville, plus walks with her friend Pam, who with her husband, are building a home just up from us.Me? I'm writing again finally, and starting to visit the local open mics to do the music I so enjoy.
Yesterday, we made a day trip to the port village of Damariscotta before meeting with new friends for dinner. It was a brisk day so we bundled up and strolled around the village; in and out the many shops there. At one point we we stopped in to King Eider's Pub and sampled some really fresh, and delicious mussels smothered with bacon and blue cheese. Next a local seafood shop and a sample of smoked salmon. Both were delicious!
The bottom line? Yes it was a long and difficult move from friends and family, but our bond as a couple has been strengthened by it. I've learned to accept change, and grow with it. Was it worth it? a definite, qualified…yes.
