Unless you've had a full battery of medical testing, including A1C and LDL-P, it's not clear that you'll know whether you're in a high-risk category. This isn't a flu—it's an endothelial sarbecovirus. It causes damage to the lining of blood vessels. It can maim you; that's an apt word choice.
Not wearing masks around others is reckless and destructive. I live in an affluent part of So Cal, and I see it every day too. It's puzzling.
Part of me wants to believe that it's just ignorance, but I think there's an element of cognitive dissonance reduction in it too. People don't want to believe that their choice for president could be so disastrously incompetent about something so serious. It's far easier to believe the disease isn't so bad. We abandon scout mindset and fight for our tribal viewpoints.
I've had a chronic illness for several years, so I take my health seriously—I have to. These people have the privilege of never having had to deal with their physical bodies rebelling against them. That will change, unfortunately.
