So are we demonizing the wrong people, or is it demonization itself that's demonic?

And of course lots people regard demonization as a religious thing, where it's believed there are forces of evil, and the question is which people are the evil ones. Naturally, if people or groups are demonized that way, the question is how to exclude or eliminate them from society. And a lot of people around the world think the most important political question is which group we should eliminate.
