Oh my goodness, wow! I’m swamped in such a tidal wave of packing and cleaning for my move on Wednesday that I just noticed this - my story Scars just crossed the 30,000 hits threshhold! It’s the 18th of my current 87 posted stories to reach this milestone and I’m still floored. I hesitated for months before even starting this one, because I knew that the very concept would be controversial and difficult. When I finally decided to write it anyway, it all got written in about five days, total. It’s a story that deliberately extrapolates Mary’s behaviour in canon and asks the question, “where does this type of gaslighting lead when left unchecked?” I did my homework and, as I’ve said before, talked to multiple therapists, two of whom specialize in dealing with men who have been abused by women, and all of them agreed that where this story goes would be a very typical arc for that sort of behaviour. Only one of the three had seen any episodes of Sherlock before, and the scene I gave them to analyze was the opening scene between John and Mary in HLV. Anyway, I’m still relieved that I didn’t get booed out of the fandom for writing this, and I continue to be amazed that people click on it at all, and even like it, even in spite of all the pain. Thank you so much!!!! Thank you for being readers who let me take risks, and come along on the journey with me. It means the world.
