Bradley Valentine I love King and admired the book series. The TV show started with a lot of promise -- the casting of Bill and Holly is SO GOOD that I hardly think it could have been better (particularly how they did with Holly on HBO's The Outsider...what an opportunity that might have been for Justine Lupe, the actor on Mr Mercedes, who has already invested so much in that character and, frankly, has not gotten the material she deserves by the prime Mercedes series).

I am sure many will disagree, but this adaptation of Mr. Mercedes falls quite flat. At least for me. The first season rolls along OK even with the noticeably limited budget, well, making you notice. This is the kind of series where in the hands of more resourceful producers would have made a show that looks far more pricey than it is. By season 3, a pleasant though not entirely fulfilling or satisfying way to pass the time becomes utterly aggravating in all the missed opportunities. As I already mentioned, Holly's arc and relationship to Bill gets utterly lost. We're TOLD about their connection as opposed to having witnessed it or being able to sense it. Most bafflingly, the second and third book in the Bill Hodge trilogy gets switched in place. I assumed at first that the second book was being skipped due to a certain character's absence through much of the plot. Not so. I couldn't believe it when I realized they were using it for the third season. I think it has to do with the certain actor playing a certain character didn't want to be tied up for a full year waiting for the show to need him again. Narratively speaking, it just doesn't work. I get the production need, but I don't get it in terms of the arc. It's ass backwards. And my brother, who hadn't read the books, he could sense things being amiss.

Joseph Pennington Unfortunately it’s probably gonna suck like most of his tv adaptations (cough 11/22/63). Love Kings books, in fact he is one of my favorite writers, I just wish someone could make a decent screen adaptation.

Sean Hey Joseph. Good news, Mr. Mercedes already happened and it was very good. This is a re-showing of the series.

Michael Grogan Brendan Gleeson is great in that role. Good news.

Agreed. Gleeson is fantastic at all times but this is a stand out, even for him. I read somewhere that King said he modelled Bill Hodges on Gleeson. I can't quite see that in the books, but I think it's fantastic casting.
