Comment on Punting… by Kim Petitt

We can promote our own content and still take time to support other writers. I just wrote a blog post about this. I think one way to encourage is to critique, but don’t criticize. If another writer asks for your opinion and you choose to give it, be honest, but don’t need to be mean about it. Let them know, what works and what area needs improvement. Simply pointing out which parts suck is not constructive criticism, it’s rude.
