Autumn Journeys
OceanCounty Library Bookfest
Rain, fog, and a generally gray day did not stop the hundreds of people from attendingOcean County Bookfest on Sept 24. The staff of the Ocean County Library shiftedto plan B moving all authors, presenters, and vendors indoors. Yet the spacewas not overwhelmed.
Attendance and of course the corresponding sales were down a magnitude due tothe weather. No beach traffic, there was no sunny beaches to head to. Still, those on both sides of the table ahd a good time. One unique thing about theevent that will bring me back next year -- apple cobbler. Not only did theauthors get fed breakfast, but soup and salad with a scrumptious desert to topit off.
The icing on the cake was a teen-age girl who had stopped by the table threetimes stopped me on the way out. She apologized for not buying Windmaster butjust did not have enough money. She could have walked on by, but made a pointof stopping and talking. My answer - give her parents the bookmark with theordering information on it. The holidays are coming.
CollingswoodBook Festival
Beneath a crisp autumn sun, what must have been ten blocks of authors, publishers, and other book vendorssetup in the downtown of the south New Jersey town of Collingswood .
The lastjourney was to a street fair on a warm, gorgeous indian summer day. Authors inour booth represented romance, contemporary, middle-grade, horror, fantasy, andmystery. Its a great way to learn from other writers and about the groups theybelong to including NewJersey Authors Network, LibertyStates Fiction Writers, and Sisters in Crime.
