I’m still unaccustomed
to this peace,
still carry so much rage
for the fight I had
to endure.  
Forgive my fingers,
when they become fists
again,
forgive this voice
when it still thinks
it must shout.  

I’ve turned this cheek
so many times,
I don’t know which way
I am
facing.
