Typewriter Series #3035 by Tyler Knott Gregson

Come fire, we said,
come flood,
after all weren’t we made
in the rain?

Chased us, hunted us like
quarry, like prey,
forced hand into hand
and soaked us time
and again.
Rainstorm pursued
and caught,
purified and we called it
that.  Watch as what
we were
washes away.

We were born in rainfall,
in thunder and strike,
we are ten thousand
drops of water,
and the sound it sings
as it rises back
to the clouds.

Stand beside me,
and lift your eyes
to the sky.
