An adventure!

Multiple mysterious murders, family drama, university politics, deception and intrigue! Nelson Cover provides it all in his latest novel, "A Matter of Circumstance". He packs a lot of complexity into 264 pages.

The characters carried over from the first in this series, "From the Midst of Wickedness", fill out a little more in this volume, becoming old friends who we are glad know better. And, there are a few new ones who deserve to be written about in Volume III. The delightfully surprising JoAnn is one. My favorite of all is the brilliant, naïve, diabolical, gregarious yet gruff researcher, Zoltan - the uncle we all might have adored. University board member, Mark Berger, is full of unexpected twists and turns – an interesting hero. I have yet to figure out the sex appeal of Thomas - perhaps a female reviewer will explain.

Cover skillfully brings us up to speed in the first few chapters, reminding us of the previous plot lines in "Wickedness", and the story spins its web wildly from there. This is an entertaining read - a fun escape during the coronavirus pandemic into other peoples’ lives. In spite of the implications of the title and some of the subplots, this is not a dark story. It is much more of a romp through a landscape that is sinister, surprising and illuminated by moonbeams.
