Wheelbarrow Of The Week

We have met Kevin Nicks before – he set a world record in 2018 for building and driving the world’s fastest shed. Unlike most of us who have wasted lockdown by doing unprofitable things like gardening, painting and decorating, and clearing out attics, Kevin has plied his mind to considering how he could build the world’s fastest wheelbarrow.

At a trial at Elvington Airfield in North Yorkshire, Kevin, showing the ingenuity that has made the country what it is today, clocked a speed of 44 miles per hour on the back of his “Barrow of Speed”, comfortably fast enough to earn himself a place in the Guinness World Records. An official attempt on the record will be made in a few weeks’ time.

Riding the thing is not for the faint-hearted. “The handles of the wheelbarrow move in all directions”, said Kevin. “Every journey on it is not just going fast in a straight line, you’re trying to avoid crashing, which is great! The adrenaline rush is unbelievable. As long as it does not kill me, I’ll have set the Guinness record”.

If he does have a mishap, at least there will be something at hand to wheel him back in.
