People feel disempowered. They don’t think they can make money doing things they want to do, deep down. And the things they can do to make money more easily aren’t satisfying.
So they live unhappy lives. They eat unhealthy food. They watch TV. They get fat. They placate themselves with what they can, without the understanding that they could be so much more — with more effort.
I think we’d do well to reinvigorate our education system by identifying passions and talents at an early age, and teaching the value of entrepreneurship centrally with technology.
I also think we should try to make it easier to become an entrepreneur. Innovation grows the pie and increases everyone’s wealth and happiness. But it’s hard to do. “Getting a job” is so much easier than becoming an entrepreneur. But it adds so much less to the world.
How many people work as hard as you have on Medium — to get to the point of being able to support themselves with their ideas? On the other hand, how many people go and work in marketing, communications, law, etc. for the paycheck? Building something is a brutal process.
