The Ex Assignment

It's been ages since I posted here, but I hope to at least do a Writer's Wednesday every week. What better way to kick this off by introducing you to my new series ROGUE PROTECTORS and the first book, THE EX ASSIGNMENT .

THE EX ASSIGNMENT is a second-chance romance. One of my favorite tropes, but I dislike writing flashbacks and it's my preference not to encounter them in my reading as well. However, in second-chance romances, backstory is not only important, but essential. It's easy to just devolve into blocks of internal monologue explaining the past or go into several scenes to show it.

I even toyed with the idea of a prequel. But the thing is, I don't feel the urgency in a flashback when I want to my couple to deal with their issues in the present.

It's trickier to weave the past into the present without resorting to a scene set in the past, but I found ways to show it and I believed it contributed to the angst. ;)

Did I mention I'm into angsty books lately? That's a topic for another blog post, but tell me if this blurb doesn't scream angsty to you. ;)

BLURB

Seventeen years of buried secrets and a divorce stood between them.

It started with her estranged father’s murder.
The last thing LA detective Gabby Woodward needed was the custody of her entitled half-brother.
She was jaded and overworked. A nurturing soul she was not.
And he was a reminder of “him.”
Her ex-husband.
The man who crushed her heart and trampled on her love.

Ex-mercenary Declan Roarke had hit rock bottom.
His new assignment mentoring teen actors was the gateway to hell.
And the last thing he needed was to be near his ex-wife.
The woman who trampled on their vows and ruined his ability to trust.

Working together exposes feelings for each other that never died.
It also uncovers the conspiracy that tore them apart.
Lies. Murder. Plot twist.
Welcome to Hollywood.

Add THE EX ASSIGNMENT to your TBR or PREORDER now!

It comes out August 24. It's quite different from what I've written in the past. The relationship between the couple is complex, but I can assure you the same page-turning suspense. :)
