Sadness here. Last night heard of the deaths of two friends - not intimate friends, but women I've known for forty years. Roberta Pournelle - Jerry Pournelle's widow - was the definition of the word "queenly," taking no shit and no prisoners, yet warm and delightful to be with. I knew she'd had a stroke - I saw her very shortly afterwards - so her death, though saddening, wasn't a surprise or a shock.
The passing of Susan Ellison - Harlan's amazing widow - was both. What a sweet, lovely woman she was.
Two steel-strong, wonderful women (who never failed to amaze me that they could live with the men they lived with!). I will miss them.
