Shaefer!
Hi all,
Well lockdown is slowly beginning to ease, but life is still far from normal. Fortunately I've been able to do some freelance work here and there over lockdown and I've had chance to work on my next book! Along with spending time outside with the kids, walks, books and of coarse taking Mr C for a ride, it's helped keep my sanity intact 🙂.
Braking away from my previous picture books, I decided this time to write a chapter book. I wanted something that I could read to my girls at bedtime. Something fun with humour and a bit of excitement without being scary. I also wanted something they could pick up and read themselves when they were a little older. But where to start?🤔
Inspiration came in the form of a soft toy dog called Shaefer. He belongs to my eldest. He is her cheeky fluffy dog who is always getting into trouble and who I am constantly being asked to make stories up about. So why not write them down?
A pup called Shaefer is loosely based on my family and Shaefer is a real dog, not a toy in the book, but he is the perfect inspiration for what I wanted to write.
I finished the text about a week ago but felt it needed something, a few sketches maybe? So I hightailed it to Dad's and asked him what he thought. A few days later he started to send me line sketches to put in amongst the chapters. I think he was quite glad really, he's still on furlough and has run out of DIY projects 😂😂.
Anyway long story short Shaefer should be ready to publish in a few weeks 😁. I'll let you know when he's ready - promise. Until then stay safe and good reading, Jo x
