Career Author?

I just have a second or three to pound out a quick blog for you all today, Faithful, so don't be too upset with me -- this one will be short. The past few days have been filled with a metric ton of work, a 12+ hour drive, a family funeral and an exhausted few hours of sleep, but I did promise to start answering your questions and to getting back to blogging with some regularity. :P

So, I'll answer this question from Zane, who posted it in response to my Question Contest (Week 5). The question was:

Has being an author for a career changed your life in any way?

This is an easy one, Zane. As much as I would like to be, I don't write full-time. Being an author is NOT my full-time profession, as much as it pains me to admit it. :( Believe me, I would LOVE for that not to be true, but simply: it is.

You have to write a LOT of books (or just a few really, really, really successful ones) in order to be a full-time writer. I'm not there, yet. I work a 50+ hour-a-week job, help my wife home-school our four youngest children, teach youth at my church, own and run a business on the side (Ignitus Innovation, Inc.), maintain a home, and as often as I can; I write. :P

Yes, I am very, very, very busy...

How do I find the time to do all that? Well, that's another question for another day and another blog. :P

What about you, Faithful? Do you have a busy schedule, or a not-so-busy one? I'd love to know; chime in below!

(Hey, did that rhyme?)

Zane Chen A schedule that is WAY TOO BUSY. I don't even have enough time to write a sentence on my manuscript. I don't think that rhymed a lot. Lol

I hear ya, Zane. I hear ya. Well, maybe my next post (which I hope is all about carving out time to write) will help ya out. :D Thanks again for the question!

Amber DiTullio I've been hovering somewhere between too busy and fighting through depression so I'm not getting done what I should. I'm hoping things will even out, emotionally and schedule-wise, next week.

The same for you, Amber! I'll be praying for you!

Carla I think that my schedule runs erratic. It plays with what needs to be done vs. what I would like to get done. The day to day grind can reek havoc but I try to attempt to care for myself everyday, it is good for the soul. I think that taking time even if it is ten minutes to read, write, meditate, pray, and/or close my eyes refreshes me for the rest of the day or the next, if I do it in the evening. Those moments are treasure moments.

Carla Oh, and I understand home schooling, my children aren't, but my step daughter has 9 children ranging from 12 to 8 months and she home schools. I love helping out and realize that there are great programs for parents that do. I wish I did with mine when they were younger, but they are teens in high school now, and I have problems helping them with some Chemistry and Latin homework.

Yea, I understand this completely. You gotta have that quiet time. For me, it's getting to go run. Not only am I running, which helps me stay healthy, but I get to zone out and listen for the voice of my Father. I love it. :D Sadly, it's HARD to keep up a good, solid running schedule.
