"The Elite" by Kiera Cass
Hey everyone! I know it's been a while but I'm finally back. Unfortunately, I've had a lot of school work so it's been hard for me to find time to read. Anyway, TGIF! I finally finished!Enjoy x

Novel: The Elite
Author: Kiera Cass
Published: 2013
Genre: romance, dystopian
The number of pages: 336
Series: The Selection #2
"The competition was deeper than I had guessed." - America Singer
Blurb: The Selection began with thirty-five girls. Now with the group narrowed down to the six Elite, the competition to win Prince Maxon's heart is fiercer than ever—and America is still struggling to decide where her heart truly lies. Is it with Maxon, who could make her life a fairy tale? Or with her first love, Aspen?
America is desperate for more time. But the rest of the Elite know exactly what they want—and America's chance to choose is about to slip away.
I think it started off a bit slow for me. The last 100 pages or so almost made up for the lacklustre start but not quite. Yes, I did have a lot of school work but it was also hard for me to find the motivation to continue when not a lot was happening. Nothing exciting was happening. There were a few little bits of excitement, like the few rebel attacks that happened. To be honest, I was hoping America might've got injured just to add to the excitement but no. Everything remained normal. I don't often skip a single word in a story but I found myself skimming over pages, just reading the dialogue. Towards the end, I did find myself more engaged with the story but the start really made it hard for me to continue. Nonetheless, I will be continuing with a series because I rarely give up when I'm already in so deep. Ok, a little on the characters now. America annoyed me. Maxon annoyed me. Aspen annoyed me. Everyone annoyed me. Case closed. Jokes. As you may already know, I cannot stand love triangles. They are the worst kind of love. So, naturally, I hated every time America was like omg I love Aspen he's my childhood love and then omg Maxon, he's the one, actually no, I want Aspen. Like, please. Just make up your mind. You must love someone more than the other and obviously, we all know you're going to choose Maxon because, duh. The story is literally about The Selection and it wouldn't make sense to choose Aspen. So obviously she'll choose Maxon, so why drag Aspen through the mud? Everyone was just so irritating to me. I couldn't gravitate towards any of the characters because it one way or another they all have irritating qualities about them.I will say one thing. Maxon actually grew on me. He's more than what he seems. More than skin deep. He has demons too, demons that may him seem more relatable, especially for America. I liked him when I realised he wasn't someone who would just become king.
PROS: Getting to understand Maxon better.
CONS: Just about everything.
So, I give this a 7/10!
I'll see you as soon as I possibly can! Hopefully.
