Don't say we weren't warned

From a remarkable piece in The Guardian by Celina Ribeiro, which you can read here:

"COAL CONSUMPTION AFFECT-
ING CLIMATE.
The furnaces of the world are now
burning about 2,000,000,000 tons of
coal a year. When this is burned,
uniting with oxygen, it adds about
7,000,000,000 tons of carbon dioxide
to the atmosphere yearly. This tends
to make the air a more effective blan-

Moscovici Again a post with little relevance to this book reading community full of stupid green propaganda from rich people who can afford to buy " green credits " and fly private planes.

Matt Harper Again it's literally an automated cross-posting from his personal blog, where he has every right to hold his own opinions.

You also have a right, to not click on the "View more on Alastair Reynold's website" if you don't want to read any further.

FWIW, climate change is science, so it's association with science fiction is pretty direct. The measurement of tons of coal burned, without scientific notation, is clearly intended to emphasize the profoundly huge amount of effort put into powering civilization, which at the same time produces unprecedented atmospheric change.

Moscovici I personally find it strange that the biggest advocates of climate change are also the biggest hypocrites that ask other to do what the won't do themselves and there are hundreds of examples with Greta and the spoiled price been the latest ones.
Again it's up to Alistair to make sure his propaganda doesn't become available on this site. If he doesn't then he is doing this on purpose and shame on him.

Are you saying that postings on this website should only agree with what YOU think? That's news to me. Perhaps you could provide us with a list of what we may and may not say, so that we don't inadvertently offend you...

message 5: by Moscovici (new)

Moscovici No, of course not. I am saying on a reading site dedicated to books everyone should post something that has to do with books and enjoyment of reading a good book and their opinion on a book.
Not political propaganda.

Kai Aha, and about which book is
"I personally find it strange that the biggest advocates of climate change are also the biggest hypocrites that ask other to do what the won't do themselves and there are hundreds of examples with Greta and the spoiled price been the latest ones." ?
That's political propaganda (and completely unsubstantiated) as far as I can tell.

Here you go (my review)
The Uninhabitable Earth: A Story of the Future

But I'd be very surprised if any head-in-the-sand people read it. Far too many facts there.

Gerhard And we're still using coal-based power generation in South Africa, as it is our 'cheapest' fuel source. Kusile and Medupi, still being commissioned, will be two of the largest coal-fired power stations in the world.

@Moscovici Al is not even a Goodreads author member. The blog posts that show up here are scraped from his personal blog site where he writes about all kinds of things, not just books. http://approachingpavonis.blogspot.com/

Al is probably not even aware that his blog posts are displayed here.

Hi Neal, thanks for the clarification. I did think that Moscovici's comments were so deliberately provocative that it had to be troll bait.
Reynolds is a Goodreads Author, which explains the cross-linking with the blogs. I usually check the blogs on the authors' websites themselves first and then 'like' them when I get the GR notifications.

Anyone who doesn't follow your line is provocative.
Nobody answers the question, why you support a movement that is represented by richest, most hypocrite individuals available.

The answer is obvious. Science. Data. Facts. The highest atmospheric carbon dioxide levels for millions of years. Practically every scientist on the planet acknowledging that man-made climate change is happening. And you call it a 'movement'??

Goodbye! I'm sure you want to get back to protesting about vaccines with mis-spelt placards and having coronavirus parties with the rest of your kind.

Nick Moscovici wrote: "Whatever"

Always find it amusing when people treat facts like an option. What's the end goal there, that reality will just stop because it makes you uncomfortable? It still is happening. Not much different from those sorts you find in every country, acting as if they wave their respective national flag hard enough the current pandemic will disappear. It's just life and reality.

But I guess reality isn't something you care too much about. Here you are getting mad at an author you claim to be a fan of, but (and I'm sure someone else mentioned this already) you're failing to notice the reality that this site links to his blog on his actual website. He's not writing these here. Have fun in your fantasy world, I guess.
