Over millennia, humans have slowly figured out how to make their homes shelters from the elements. While I am not sure of the exact chronology. it most likely started with living in caves, then keeping warm and cooking with fire. Then came buildings, small at first. In the Middle Ages, most buildings, homes to castles were drafty places. By the 21st century, we have figured out how to build in ways that keeps cold out in the winter and heat out in the summer. But homes still get too cold and too warm at times.
Today, it is common in many areas for homes to have air conditioning installed as part of the original construction. If not, at least most homes have a heating system of some sort. Let’s assume that your home has a central heating system with a forced air unit (furnace and blower in one box) and ducting. You are happy and comfortable in the cool months but too warm, perhaps too hot, in the summer.
