WIP Wednesday

This week I’m diligently working on Cozy Bend 7. I find myself at 40,000 words and in need of changing part of the concept of the story. I decided to just write it all the way through and make the changes in edits to save time. Well, I’ll probably make the changes and then do the read through, so I can hear it sounds.
Other than that, the story is going well. I’m enjoying the pull and push between Rae and Mirabella. I ended up changing the dynamics I had originally planned when I did that first smexy scene. It just felt right considering Rae and Mirabella’s prior interactions.
As for that supernatural element in this story, I’m keeping as low-key as possible since this story comes in a series where the supernatural has been just that. That factor is more or less been a subplot and I’m keeping it that way and using it as a way to bring Mirabella and Rae together along with what they feel for each other.
The subplot also closes the thread started in book 4 and ran through 5. It’s not going to glare at you, but it’s an element I feel needs some closure.
I have a brief excerpt today. This excerpt comes from right near where I am now. The first smexy scene has occurred and Rae and Mirabell are on a date and doing what they seem to do best so far, arguing. Enjoy and until next week, happy reading.

Rae lifted her brows and joined her at the center island where she had stopped filling Rae’s glass.
“This morning was delicious, but I had wanted to take you out before we had sex,” Rae told her. “You intrigue me, and I just want to treat you right.”
Mirabella blinked unsure what she thought of that. “Treat me right?”
Rae took the glass from her hand a took a sip of the red liquid. “I normally don’t give a damn about the women I bed,” she said matter-of-fact. “They’re a means to an end.”
“What end?” Mirabella asked curiously.
“A desire, a sexual urge to have a woman. Women are a hobby. I use them to blow off steam, but one look at you and I wanted to peel back the layers to see what was inside.”
“What about that girl that tore up your clothes?” Mirabella asked angrily. “Did she know you were just keeping her on standby?”
“She wasn’t on standby,” Rae replied evenly. “I wasn’t in love with her, and she knew that. She was just someone I preferred over the other women in my circle.”
“Maybe that’s all I am,” she growled. “Just an older woman you think you’re doing a favor by paying attention to me.”
Rae set the glass down and wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. “If you believe that, I don’t know why I’m even here,” she said calmly. “Unless you’re just covering your bases for mommy and daddy.”
“You’re a jerk,” Mirabella fumed. “I don’t know why I was stupid enough to invite you over.”
Rae gave her a cool stare that almost chilled Mirabella. “I want to get to know you Mirabella, but I’m not going to be a whipping board.”
“I’m not going to be just another notch on your bedpost,” she snapped.
