And Da Winnah Is

Karan with this entry:

It was quite a bit harder to choose this time, despite the fact that there were fewer entries. I think maybe because a lot of you know me or know my work enough to have a feel for what I like.
But in any case it finally came down to a handful of covers, and to be honest I could have gone happily with any one of them. They were all excellent.
I don't know if it was conscious on Karan's part or not, but she got me with that feel of heat and sundazzled water. I am partial to swimming pools, as some of you know. The bare and beautiful male body will sell books and I really liked the colors -- I don't have a lot of blue covers currently, so...in other words it was partly logic and partly that instinctive, gut response that defies explanation.
Congratulations, Karan!
I want to say how really appreciative I am of each and every one of these submissions. I'm always startled and touched by how really generous you are all with your time and your creativity -- and your patience with all my goofy ideas.
As a way of saying thank you, I'll be very happy to a supply a copy of the new edition of the book to each person who submitted a cover to the contest -- I'll keep you posted on the release date.
Meantime, if Karan could drop me a line so we can get moving, I'd appreciate it!

Urbanista From this retired graphic designer and bibliomaniac--NICE JOB! : )

Urbanista Just a suggestion though (can't help myself!) Might want to align the type--subtle things subtly enhance the beauty. cool.

Josh Truly -- I am not just being polite here -- I was once again blown away by the wonderful submissions. It really is proof that no author should be stuck with a ugly cover. There are so many talented artists out there. Instead of relying on a handful of artists and driving them into the ground, maybe break it up and use more freelancers? I guarantee there would be more fresh and original and interesting cover art.

Urbanista As an enthusiastic reader and retired designer, I almost want to weep at how terrible some m/m covers are! It's just not fair to good authors and good books to have completely misguided, unprofessional, schlock covers. It's fantastic that you, as an author, take responsibility for ensuring that your work is properly presented to your avid/rabid readers. Also, authors who think they can do their own covers probably shouldn't. Good job with your open call for submissions--and your good taste in picking Da Winna!

Elle its lovely! So nice to see. I so agree with the above post about bad covers (not just m/m either), sometimes they're so bad it is down right cruel. It's nice to see care taken. Congrats.

Josh Yes! I was very pleased with all the submissions. Really nice entries. Original and imaginative and a lot of thought taken.

Susan This is one of the most beautiful covers of all your books, Josh. Very simple, clean, and classy.

It reminds me of all the scenes in the book revolving around the apartment building pool.

Karan did an excellent job.
