Strange Fire

 

Leviticus 10    Nadab and Abihu sin (KJ version)

“And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense theron, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which he commanded them not.

And there went out fire from the Lord, and devoured them, and they died before the Lord.

Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the Lord spake saying, I wll be sanctified in them that come near unto me, and before all the people I will be glorifed. And Aaron held his peace.

And Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said unto them, Come near, carry your bretheren from before the sanctuary out of the camp.

So they went near and carried them in their coats out of the camp as Moses had said.

And Moses said unto Aaron, and Elezer and unto Ithamar, his sons. Uncover not your heads, neither rend your clothes; lest ye die, and lest wrath come upon all the people, but let your bretheren, the whole house of Israel bewail the burning which the Lord hath kindled.

And ye shall not go out from the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die; for the anointing oil of the Lord is upon you. And they did according to the word of Moses.”

 

This event occurred in the presence of Moses and Aaron, at the initiation ceremony of worship and sacrifice in the newly constructed Tabernacle.  The ceremony and sacrifice was to be practiced according to precise and minute instruction according to the Word of God which was passed unto Moses in his many and lengthy communions with God.  40 days and nights Moses spent in the cloud and presence of God on Mount Sinai where the law was given unto him.  Along with the law was the detailed and precise instructions for the construction of the Tabernacle which was to be become the seat of God.

 

In the Tabernacle was housed the chest of the Ark which contained the stone tablets inscribed of the Ten Commandments. The Mercy Seat was lid of the chest of the Ark made of shittim wood, inlaid with gold. The Mercy Seat was the precise spot where God promised to meet with human beings. Once a year on the Day of Atonement, priests (hereditarily titled through only the sons of Aaron) entered the tabernacle and sprinkled the blood of the sacrifice upon the Mercy Seat.  In minute detail and instruction this ceremony was performed. 

 

The incense was made according to specific instruction.

 

Leviticus 30:34

 

“And the Lord said unto Moses, Take unto thee sweet spices, stacte, and onycha, and galbanum; these sweet spices with pure frankincense of each shall there be a like weight.

And thout shalt make it a perfume, a confection after the art of the apothecary, tempered together pure and holy.

And thou shalt beat some of it very small, and put of it before the testimony in the tabernacle of the congregation, where I will meet with thee; it shall be unto you most holy.

And as for the perfume which thou shalt make, ye shall not make to yourselves according to the composition thereof; it shall be unto thee holy for the Lord.

“Whosoever shall make unto that, to smell thereto, shall even be cut off from his people.”

 

It was of perhaps of some short cut that Nadab and Abihu took in the making or offering of the incense. Perhaps they substituted an ingredient or used irregular weight.  Whatever it was, was the sin that brought upon them their destruction, in the presence of Moses and Aaron their father, at the initiation ceremony of worship in the tabernacle.  

 

I am a sinner in jeopardy of committing Strange Fire before the Lord.  Of engaging in improper worship with a sinful mind.  Or of committing the unpardonable sin which amongst other things may be suicide. Or of falling out of faith before the arrival of the Lord which may come sooner or later than expected.

 

I am concerned that the impression of my books may be construed of as Strange Fire before the Lord.  That the energies I align with and write about are Strange Fire.  But this is so only if I make Idols of such things, if I were to place these energies, good though they are, above and before the Lord.

 

Dear reader, I pray for such things in my books to not be of Strange Fire.  They are not and have never been features of Idolatry practiced by me. These energies are not an end unto themselves.   They are contrived from the goodness of God, who works to lead, heal, and align.  Beneath God, these energies respond to God, according to the knowledge of whom these things are given to.

 

In my books if there is ever a question of my ideas or practices being considered Strange Fire, I renounce them to not be so.  I confess before the Lord,  Strange Fire practices I have engaged in and ask forgiveness for my mistakes.   I pray that I mislead not others into Strange Fire practices but turn their hearts straight and steadfast to the Lord and all instruction contained in the Bible.   That they become beloved of Jesus, feel of his sacrifice, and know that they are the instruments of his Joy.  That he rejoices of our names being written in heaven.
