Corn-EEEEE

My Mom could do it...All my life, I’ve tried to grow it
And I never could.E’en though it would have brought an increase in our livelihood.
Conditions were too dry some yearsThe seeds just did not grow,Though I set the sprinklers thereTo splash both to and fro.
And some years were too wet, I guessThe results were still the same. And though I weeded carefully,Their non-growth brought me shame.
Then one year all was right, they grewRight near to touch the sky,And like ol’ Curly in the songHigh as an el’phant’s eye!
But that year came the crickets, they madeShort work of my plants,And what they didn’t eat were soonDevoured by the ants.
At long last, I threw in the towelGave up the scheme as lost,Decided that the whole thing cameWith just too big a cost.
So now I’m happy. My new scheme goesJust the way I plan,Cause now the best way to grow cornIs to get it from a can!

Cause Mondays do get knocked a lot,With poetry, we all besought,To try to make the week beginWith pleasant thoughts, Perhaps a grin?So all of us, together, weHave crafted poems for you to see.And now you’ve read what we have wrought…Did we help?Or did we not?
