Typewriter Series #2993 by Tyler Knott Gregson

Privilege is choice,
choice on what we teach
or if we teach it at all,
privilege is not having to invent rules
to avoid being shot,
not rehearsing arrest scenarios
with seven year olds because
you just never know.

Privilege is choice,
it’s an ice cream cone
Summer night
and the freedom to ask
Are they too young
to hear this?
Privilege is censorship
and the ability
to hide behind it if it
is all too much.

Privilege is choice,
and I know how I will
use mine.  I will grow louder
if your voice is drowned out,
I will stand in front of you to protect,
beside you to support,
behind you to catch you
if you fall.

No matter the cost,
I choose equality, and I will
fight until it is finally
here.
