What’s Stopping You?!

Hey y’all! Long time, no….write?

I’ve been working on a few projects of my own that I’ll reveal a little later, but I wanted to stop in to share a story with you.

There’s this case worker named Kirah. She’s worked as a case worker for years in various settings. She’s had the pleasure of helping people of all backgrounds and loves what she does.

While working to help others, Kirah decides to do something for herself. Something she’s always dreamed of doing, but never quite had the time. As time goes by, she finds herself with a lot of extra time to finally do it, but starts to doubt herself. She starts to listen to the voices in her head that tell her she’s not good enough, no one will want to hear what she has to say, no one will care…so she tucks her dreams under the carpet and walks away.

Little by little, Kirah finds herself feeling insecure and sad. She begins to sulk in disappointments, not in anyone else, but in herself. She’s surrounded by a great host of family and friends, yet can’t seem to shake her sadness to the point of depression. Kirah drowns herself in her work knowing she is helping others, but at the same time, she’s lost herself.

One day while preparing to meet with one of her new clients, Kirah finds herself overwhelmed. She’s heard so many negative and complicated things about this client, that she finds herself dreading the whole appointment before she can even meet him. Regardless of how she feels, Kirah presses on to the appointment.

Kirah shows up to the client’s home, walks up to the door, takes a deep breath, and knocks. The door opens and Kirah is led to the client’s bedroom. Not knowing what to expect (but having so many predetermined thoughts about the client), Kirah is stunned to see a frail bodied man laying in his bed with the warmest smile on his face.

As Kirah sits down to start her assessment, the client begins to run down his life story as to what brought him to his current life situation. He begins to speak about being born with a birth defect that caused him to have no use of his upper or lower limbs. About living a life bed or chair bound with no way of doing anything for himself. About having to be carried everywhere, dressed, spoon fed, and cleaned by someone else his entire life.

Kirah sat there with the biggest ball in her throat as she took notes and listened to what seemed like the world’s most unfortunate life. Her heart began to sink with sorrow and sadness for this man she thought she would dread working with.

Then as Kirah was knee deep in a pity party for the client, he stopped talking. At that point, Kirah was looking down at her paper trying to get herself together to finish the assessment. Confused by the silence, Kirah looked up and noticed the client was looking at her with a big smile. When Kirah asked if the client was ok, he replied in a way that would change Kirah’s perspective for the rest of her life.

He goes on to say, “I’ve spent my whole life being taken care of like a baby. I’ve never known what it is to use or feel my hands or feet. I have no privacy. I live with caregivers day in and day out in order to complete any tasks including eating and using the bathroom. BUT I BELIEVE IN A GOD WHO IS FAITHFUL AND LOVING! I may not be able to use my hands, but I’ve gotten a Bachelor’s degree and have published a book and I’m working on my next one. I may not be able to walk or eat on my own, but I have a mouth that works just fine and I use it to speak and encourage anyone and everyone God places in my path. I’m a life coach and motivational speaker and I’ve had the honor of speaking at events all around the globe. I may have been born with a birth defect, but I am blessed beyond measure and refuse to allow anything to stop me from doing what I’ve been purposed to do by God.”

He then continued to speak and encourage Kirah concerning her own purpose. Kirah left that appointment refreshed, encouraged, and ready to grab those dreams from under that carpet and run!

Moral of the story? We all have a purpose that God has placed in our hearts. We spend so much time wondering who will care or listen, but that’s not our job. God said “Be fruitful and multiply”. He didn’t say what to do with the fruit, where to put it, or who will eat it. All we have to do is BE FRUITFUL and He will take care of the rest.

When looking from the outside in, that client didn’t have much to live for and had what most of us would consider a miserable life. BUT! He chose to see his life through God’s perspective. He chose to be fruitful with what he was given, his mouth and his heart.

So let me ask you a question…..WHAT’S STOPPING YOU?!

Until next time my lovelies,

Be Blessed…and Stay Tuned! Mwah!
