Saudi Arabian takeover bid in January opens up lots of questions

It has been reported by 90 Minutes that AFC Bournemouth were close to having new owners in January of this year, when Saudi Arabian investors looked to complete a takeover of the club. The club would have been sold, but for a disagreement over the club's valuation and Maxim Demin would have sold out.
Is AFCB still up for sale? It looks like Maxim Demin has had enough. This gives a whole new view on the stable appearance of the club and Eddie Howe's position. While the investment from new ownership would have been significant with the prospect of a new 27,000 seat stadium, there would most likely have been a management change and a very different attempt at trying to keep AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League.

I wrote a short while ago that I wondered if Maxim Demin would get bored of AFC Bournemouth and it appears that he has come to that point. Selling the club while in the Premier League would be a great way to bow out, but if the club is relegated the value of the club would fall dramatically. Of course, the club could stay up and the deal could still go through later this summer - what a different season we could be looking at then, in 2020/21, presuming their is a season then.

That might not sit so well with many fans, but things do move on and perhaps we have been cushioned from the fragility of reality for far too long. Eddie is the longest serving manager of any club, and while his departure might not happen with a takeover, the new owners would want much better results quickly for him to stay in place. Perhaps that is something that would benefit the club? Have we been in a bubble too long? Does the club need a shock to get it moving forward again?

The other point I'd like to make is whether the club is still openly looking for a buyer? If it is, we could well see much more talk about players looking to move this summer and a disrupted dressing room is not going to be healthy for the club. Answers is what we will need, but will the club speak out more about this in the coming days? It's surely not going to seem helpful to the club when it is trying to concentrate on a relegation fight and needs the fans and players onside.

In other news, it has been said in the press that Aaron Ramsdale is the Bournemouth player who is self-isolating from COVID-19 symptoms.
