She heard a noise from somewhere in the room and froze. Her heart hammered against her rib cage and Thea could feel the rhythm of it in her throat. It was silent except for her irregular breathing which she desperately tried to control. The sound of a chain moving against the floor was hyper-focused in her ears and was the only thing she could think about.
“Who’s out there?” She announced, her voice echoed in the empty room.
Thea searched, squinting in the brightly lit room; it was empty besides her won cage and the steel wall in the back of the room. The only noticeable feature was a solid steel door with a small window in the upper section.
She stared at the window and watched as a thin finger reach through the bars of it-- then two, three, and four. The nails were long and jagged. The hand was frail and had been broken and healed incorrectly. Even with the vast amount of distortion, she knew that the hand belonged to a woman.
“Who are you!” Thea yelled.
“Wouldn’t you like to know.”
The woman responded, her voice sinister, the laugh that followed was worse and chilled Thea to her core.
