Eight Days and Counting
In just 8 days, NaNoWriMo 2011 begins. For those of you who have never heard of this insanity provoking event, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. It is a novel-writing challenge that takes place every November, during which participants begin writing on the 1st with a goal of completing a 50,000 word novel by the 30th. Just by finishing the month with a word count of 50,000 words makes you a "winner."
I am not to sure how many of these winning novels are actually any good... but I have my suspicions, don't you?
Last year, I used this month to develop my outline for Dream Walker. Some people don't outline their novels. They have an idea or inspiration and just sit down and start writing. For my novel it was really important for me to have a map of where the plot and the characters were going, so I could make sure they got there in one piece.
One, whole YEAR later, I have an 85,000 word Supernatural Sci-Fi novel, less than 10,000 very important words away from being complete.
In terms of NaNo... it's a fail.
In terms of my life? It's an epic WIN.
There is an exuberant enthusiasm that surrounds the event and exudes from its participants. I am going to tap into that frenzy this year and use it to fuel my final push to finish my masterpiece.
Do you have a novel you have been dying to write? Do you have something started that you would like to finish? Why not join us?
