You were before you were,
a mother, the origin of the universe.
All this began with fire and
silent destruction, some trembling
detonation in some starless sea
look what grew from such chaos,
hold your hand to the light
and marvel at what strife can build.
In those hours of infancy,
the months of repair,
joy was in the transformation,
and though you were before
you were, you became it
whole end entirely,
mother,
origin of the universe.
Everything we have,
all the pieces we treasure
and hold close to bosom and beat,
born from struggle, from
supernova and noiseless
eruption.
Mother before you were one,
calm quiet before the light
that would set the whole world
growing.
