Published in 2019. This author is continuing the Jack Ryan legacy with Jack Jr. I did read the entire book, but I was disappointed.
The main plot line should have been with Jack Jr. but it wasn’t. The main story was actually about the sabotaging of a computer company with a cloud servicing all of the nation’s intelligence systems. A brilliant young programmer/hacker is lured to working with CHIBI, thought to be a Chinese hacker, to place a back door into the system.
None of this has anything to do with Jack Jr. until the end when he finds some of the data useful. Jack Jr. has spent most of his time in Poland on a quest to find damning information against a family member of a senator running for President. Unfortunately, he doesn’t find anything. His visit to Poland is more like a tourism guide with a small thriller segment. Poland, however, seems like an interesting place to visit for historical sites and great food.
I think this book would have been more interesting if it had stuck to the computer storyline and didn’t have the distraction of Jack Jr.’s trip to Poland or if Jack's story had been more complete. But maybe the author felt as if he needed Jack Jr.’s story in there for book sales. I don’t know but I was disappointed.
