A photo before you were anything else,
an idea made tangible, the manifestation
of hope made two dimensional.  
Carried you with me, everywhere,
and I say now it was adventure
that nurtured you, kept you safe
despite the winds.

With gentle hands you reach,
I see questions in your eyes,
and I promise I will try
to answer them.  

We’ll go again, where stone meets sea,
we’ll go again where fog rises
from mountain, from sand.  
I will see it as you see it,
through your eyes, with your tenderness,
I will watch as you watch,
wild with new life.  

Meet me there, when sleep
is fleeing and your hands
too slow to catch it,
meet me where you began,
where you were nothing but hope
made real,
where you rested quietly
in my pocket.
