We are what we learn from those who learned
before us, we are what is handed down
tenderly but laced with strength.
We are the sense of adventure,
but we are the patience to redefine it
when our hearts are anchored
to the stillness of someone else.
We are the lessons hard fought
and fortitude granted as we bear witness
to its embodiment in another,
no blood, no tears, after all.
Now, we hold our own, we
the resilient shown the way.
Takes most of a life to find our calling,
to hear the siren song
young ears are too busy to notice,
young hands too tired to hold,
darkened with earth and sweat,
shaking though strong.
Held us then, and now they hold
those we hold, tenderly but laced
with the same strength.
We are what we learn from those
who took what they learned before us
and delivered it, we are what we
pass on, ferocious courage in quiet heart
filled with brave calm, for after all
no blood, no tears.
